22nd Annual Children's Day Celebration
Celebrating the children of our community.

In celebration of the traditional May 5th holiday, Kodomo no Hi or Children's Day, the
Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC) presents an annual
family festival that is free to the public and attended by families from throughout the Southland.
Kodomo no Hi is a post-war Japanese holiday which is directly linked to a much older
observance,
Tango-no-Sekku or Boy's Day. Dating back to the feudal era of Japan, Boy's Day
celebrated the warrior tradition, and as a result, many symbols and customs associated
with Children's Day reflect this relationship.

A festival for all ages!

At the Children's Day Celebration 2005, your kids will have the unique opportunity to make
and fly their own kites, create greeting cards, and take part in other cultural
workshops including papermaking, calligraphy, and origami-folding.

Become a volunteer!

An event like this needs the help of people like you - get involved with the Little Tokyo
community by volunteering and making a difference in a child's life. Parents, community
groups, and college kids from all around Southern California volunteer at Family FunFest and
help make this event possible. Whether it be cheering on the kids at the fun run, helping them
with an arts & crafts activity, or encouraging them to make a 'hole-in-one' in the games area,
your presence really makes a difference.

For more information and volunteer shift times,
please contact Kathy Tokudomi at tokudomi@jaccc.org.

5th Annual
Mother's Day Hawaiian Style
Celebrate Mother's Day in Style!

Mother's Day Hawaiian Style is a fusion of Mother's Day and May Day Lei Day;
an extension of Saturday's Asian Pacific Arts & Crafts Faire with an emphasis on the
Hawaiian culture and community here on the mainland. Lei Day is a holiday centered around
the Hawaiian custom of making and wearing lei. Lei recaptures the old spirit of the islands:
a love of color and flowers, fragrance, laughter and aloha.

Traditional craft workshops such as feather weaving, ti leaf lei making, and pandandus leaf
weaving along with a variety of vendors and food booths will allow children and families to
experience a part of the Hawaiian culture.

For the past 4 years, Mother's Day Hawaiian Style has grown to include over 8 local
halaus who share their spirit of aloha with the audience through music, dance, and
craft activities.
Honor your Mother at this beautiful celebration!

For over 20 years, the Japanese American & Community
Center (JACCC) has presented the annual Children's
Day Festival in celebration of the Japanese traditional
holiday, Kodomo no Hi.

The festival reflects the culture of Japan and Hawaii
through arts and craft activities, food, music, and games.
This free, public event attracts families and children from
throughout the Greater Los Angeles area every year.

Attendance is expected to reach over 10,000 for 2005,
giving companies the chance to reach a valuable target
audience. Family FunFest involves families with children
ranging in age 4 to 12, parents & relatives, volunteers
from college campuses across Southern
California, and
community organizations from Little Tokyo - each of
these audiences is reached through extensive
