    Learn to make curry from scratch with Sonoko Sakai, using fresh whole spices and seeds. We will do our own spice blends and make a curry brick, only ours will be without any preservatives or food coloring. We will then make a chicken and vegetable curry and have it for lunch with sprouted brown rice and home made Fukujinzuke relish—pickles of the seven lucky gods.

    TALES OF CLAMOR is a 7-person play centering around two artists debating cultural versus institutionalized silence. Utilizing ensemble storytelling, circus arts and archival footage from the 1981 Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians hearings— when the Japanese American community broke their silence for the first time in nearly 40 years after WWII mass incarceration of Japanese Americans— this piece explores what it means to show up for each other, speak out, and generate the collective clamor necessary for social change.

    Take your coffee passion to the next level in this hands-on coffee brewing workshop with Café Dulce. Experience various brewing techniques primarily stemming from Japan, learn about the ecosystem of coffee, and get familiar with different varietals. Ticket includes Café Dulce coffee and breakfast burrito at the start of the workshop.

    Sharpen up your knife skills and knowledge in this workshop led by Hitachiya USA. Learn about the Japanese technique of knife-sharpening plus restoring, repairing and polishing your knife. No prior experience necessary. Participants are encouraged to bring one knife from home to practice sharpening with a stone. Knives and stones will be available for purchase from Hitachiya USA.

    For its 36th anniversary, Kotohajime, JACCC’s signature New Year celebration, will welcome 2019 and celebrate the Year of the Boar. Curated by Master Artist in Residence, Hirokazu Kosaka, Kotohajime features stunning performances and live music, including ritual shooting of the arrow, breaking the sake barrel, and traditional and contemporary dance and performances.
